North Korea Fires Projectiles Into Sea For Second Week Running

South Korean military says three projectiles were launched on Monday, following launch of two short-range missiles on 2 March
North Korea has fired three unidentified projectiles off its eastern coast a week after firing two short-range missiles, South Korea’s military said.
The projectiles were launched on Monday from the coastal town of Sondok, South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said. The town hosts a military airfield and North Korea fired missiles from the area last year.
The projectiles included artillery fired from a multiple launch rocket system and flew up to 200kms (124 miles) and reached 50 km in altitude, JCS said.
“The military is monitoring for additional launches and maintaining readiness,” the JCS said in a statement.
Japan’s defence minister, Taro Kono, said the projectiles appeared to be ballistic missiles and did not fall into Japan’s exclusive economic zone, though the government was examining details about the launch.
North Korea fired two short-range missiles off the east coast into the sea on 2 March after a three-month halt. The launches, which officials have said were routine military drills, were personally overseen by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
In the aftermath of that launch, the North Korean president’s sister, Kim Yo-jong’s, condemned South Korea as a “frightened dog barking” went it lodged protests against the launches.
The launches came as negotiations with the US were at a standstill and after the expiry of a unilateral deadline Pyongyang set for Washington to offer it fresh concessions on sanctions relief.
Pyongyang is under multiple sets of sanctions over its weapons programmes from the United Nations Security Council, US, South Korea and others.
Britain, Germany, France, Estonia and Belgium raised last week’s missile firings at the UN security council on Thursday, calling them a provocative action that violated UN resolutions.
The sister of North Korea’s leader said recent drills were not meant to threaten anyone, according to a statement carried by state news agency KCNA last week.

Iran Reports 49 New Coronavirus Deaths, Highest Single-day Toll

Iran’ s health ministry on Sunday reported 49 new deaths from the novel coronavirus, the highest toll within 24 hours since the start of the outbreak in the country .
“ At least 194 of our compatriots who fell sick with the COVID -19 illness have passed away , ” health ministry spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour said in a televised news conference.
The outbreak of the virus in Iran is one of the deadliest outside of China , where the disease originated .
Jahanpour added that 743 new infections were also confirmed within the past 24 hours , bringing the number of cases to 6 , 566 spread across all of Iran’ s 31 provinces.
With 1 ,805 infections, the capital Tehran remains the province with the most cases , the spokesman added.
But the situation in other provinces continued to deteriorate , with Jahanpour saying 685 cases were detected in and around Qom , the holy Shiite city south of Tehran where the country ’ s first cases were reported.
He said the number of cases was also “ rising quickly ” in Isfahan, a popular tourist destination, where there were now 564 people sick with the virus.
No official widescale quarantine measures have been enforced but several provinces have announced they would not provide lodging for tourists in an effort to dissuade travel .
Iran has been scrambling to contain the spread of the virus , closing schools and universities until the end of the Iranian new year celebrations and holidays in early April , a period when people typically travel and visit family.

Paterson, US Grants Mosques Approval To Broadcast Adhan Over Loudspeakers

The US city of Paterson, New Jersey, has backed an ordinance to allow the adhan, the Muslim call to prayer, to be broadcast over loudspeakers. Under the new measure, which still has to go through two public hearings before being implemented, the adhan would be exempt from the city’s noise control ordinance and allowed to be broadcast outside every day between 6am and 10pm.
The resolution was approved by council members on Tuesday by a vote of 7-0, with two members abstaining. “We applaud Paterson officials for taking this admirable step toward inclusion, and encourage them to pass the proposed ordinance,” said Salaedin Maksut, executive director of the New Jersey chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).
“Their open-mindedness to such laws is a concrete demonstration of respect and mutual understanding between the residents of our rich and diverse communities.” Paterson has approximately 30,000 Muslim residents, along with more than 15 mosques scattered across the area.

Transgender female athletes in Arizona banned from participating in school sports - Arizona State House

The Arizona House of Representatives has passed a controversial bill that aims to ban transgender female athletes from participating in school sports.
If signed into law, the ban would apply to all students studying in the state.
The "Save Women's Sports Act," introduced by Republican Rep. Nancy Barto this week would require interscholastic and intramural sports sponsored by educational institutions to explicitly designate sports as for males or females based on a persons' biological sex.
While Barto and others who voted for the bill agree that Is is about keeping a level playing field, opponents argue that it fails to protect LGBTQ kids and transgender youth.
During the hearing, Democratic Rep. Kirsten Engel said, "The impact will not be to protect women's sports, instead it's gonna make women's sports a total battleground of lawsuits."
"It's gonna bring people out of the corners of the field to cast accusations -- the liability here is so broad that I have very severe concerns that some schools will find some excuse to -- simply not have games," she added.
In a statement to ABC News, Barto said: 'This bill is about fairness. That’s it. What is fair on the field, the court, the track, and in the pool.'
Barto cited the biological differences between males and females from lung capacity and muscle mass to testosterone levels, give men "an undeniable physical advantage over women in sports."
"That is why we have separated male and female sports. And that is why women have been so successful in achieving greatness on the field, and all the benefits that go with it," Barto continued. "What has changed is Interscholastic policies allowing biological males identifying as females to compete on women's teams."
The bill would apply to K-12, community college and universities' female teams.

23 Iranian Members of Parliament test positive for coronavirus

23 Iranian Members of Parliament have been confirmed to have coronavirus, in the latest spike of coronavirus cases in the Islamic Republic.
The Iranian government has already announced a death toll of 77 and a total of 2,336 confirmed cases, 835 more than the previous total. Experts fear the country’s high ratio of deaths to infections – about 3.3% – may mean the actual infection figure is far greater.
BBC Persian reported that the 23 lawmakers out of the 290-member chamber, may have been infected due to their contact with their constituents across the country, which has reported the highest number of cases outside China where the virus originated in December 2019.
Reza Misri, deputy speaker of Iran’s parliament who confirmed that his colleagues tested positive for the deadly disease, said on Iranian state television’s Young Journalists Club program;
“As of now, 23 members of parliament were tested positive. These people have a close relationship with the people and they carry different viruses from different parts of the country, which may create a new virus, so we recommend the lawmakers to cut off their relationship with the public for now."
Masoumeh Ebtekar, vice president for women and family affairs and a spokeswoman for the 1979 hostage-takers, and Iraj Harirchi, the deputy health minister tasked with managing Iran's response to the outbreak, are among those who tested positive.
ILNA news agency reported that head of Iran's emergency medical services, Pir-Hossein Kolivand has also been infected with the virus.

before winning Virginia in a Super Tuesday win that puts him now in contention for the White House race.
The votes which are still being counted also shows Democratic socialist Bernie Sanders won California, Vermont, Utah and Colorado while billionaire Mike Bloomberg who spent hundreds of millions of dollars from his own pocket on his campaign only won the U.S. territory of American Samoa and will surely have to quit the race now.
Elizabeth Warren lost in her home state of Massachusetts with Biden winning at least 28 delegates in her state and beating her in her own hometown and was mocked by Donald Trump on Twitter for losing in her own home town saying she should go home and 'drink a beer'.
There will be another Super Tuesday on March 10, when Missouri, Michigan, Washington and Mississippi will vote their preferred candidates .
The eventual Democratic nominee will slug it out with Trump in November to determine the next US President.

USA President - Donald Trump donates his $100,000 salary to help fight coronavirus

US President Donald Trump, who has donated every one of his salary payments to government agencies or efforts since becoming president, has donated his 2019 fourth quarterly salary to the Department of Health and Human Services to help fight the coronavirus outbreak in the US.
Trump made the payment after taking a trip to the National Institute of Health on Tuesday afternoon to meet top immunologist Anthony Fauci as the US now has 100 confirmed cases of coronavirus with nine deaths recorded in Washington.
Trump's yearly salary is $400,000 every year from which he is paid $100,000 every 3 months.
White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham posted on Twitter an image of the $100,000 check from Trump to HHS Secretary Alex Azar .
Last week, Trump submitted a $2.5 billion supplemental funding request to Congress to fight the spread of coronavirus, but lawmakers criticized the amount for being insufficient saying the virus needed $8 million to help in combating it.

A young South African lady, Dineo Dee Mabuela, took to Facebook on Saturday, to call out a married man, Johannes Sefetla/Khumalo, who she claims physically assaulted her and raped her afterwards.
According to Mabuela, on February 16, the man beat her up and dragged her into his 'mukhukhu ko juju valley' where he raped her twice. She later reported the case to the police.
Mabuela further alleged that the man sent his family to her house to convince her to withdraw the case as "he was drunk, confused, possesed and didn't know what he was doing" but she refused. She said he and his friends are now trying to paint her as a ''whore.''
Mabuela wrote;
"Mother fucker who did this to me ke Johannes Sefetla/Khumalo. Wa go dula 2 houses away from uSave mo zone 1 seshego. O hlakane lenna ke tloga gae ke lebile ga makwaza ka masa a di 16/02/2020. He just started beating me up and dragged me while i was screaming and bleeding. Dragging me to his mukhukhu ko juju valley. He raped me twice then locked me in and left. In the morning he came back after an hour le his wife. They conviced me to lie to my fam and bribed me ka R300 (i took it). I later confessed to my brother and his wife then we went to open a case. He is still roaming the streets of seshego. Very free.my boyfriend is even starting to doubt me... please help me if u know him. An American thief steals vehicle with body inside

LOS ANGELES (AP) - A thief stole a hearse, with a body inside, then went on a wild ride, ending with a chase and a crash on a busy freeway.
Authorities said they found the body undisturbed inside a casket Thursday morning and arrested James Juarez after the crash, which closed the 110 Freeway during the morning commute.
The crime began Wednesday night when Juarez stole the black Lincoln Navigator from outside St. Anthony Greek Orthodox Church in East Pasadena, The Associated Press reports. The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department pleaded with the thief on social media to return the body in a post that was widely shared online.

At least 700 people in New York placed under voluntary quarantine after returning from China for fear of Coronavirus

At least 700 people who returned to New York from China have been placed under voluntary quarantines over the deadly coronavirus which broke out from Wuhan in China.
Jill Montag, a spokesperson for the New York State Department of Health, confirmed an estimated 700 travellers had voluntarily agreed to take part in the 14-day self-isolation period after having returned from trips to China.
Despite officials disclosing that none of the travellers under voluntary quarantine had displayed symptoms associated with the deadly virus, Ms Montag added: “Voluntary self-isolation will help limit the potential spread of this virus.”
According to USA Today, the travellers under voluntary quarantine are being monitored on a daily basis by local health officials, who oversee their food deliveries and monitor each person for potential symptoms associated with the virus, like respiratory difficulties, a fever or coughing.
The publication also added that Health officials have also begun monitoring travellers under voluntary quarantine by video on their cellphones.

Saudi Arabia place bans on religious pilgrims from visiting Mecca or Medina

Saudi Arabia has banned religious pilgrims from visiting Mecca or Medina to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the Kingdom.
In a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from the Kingdom, it was disclosed that they had been following developments of the virus for some time.
In order to support countries impacted by the virus the Kingdom said they would be implementing 'approved international standards' in the form of a temporary ban on pilgrimages.
They also temporarily suspended entry into the Kingdom for the purpose of Umrah and visiting the Prophet’s Mosque.
The statement also revealed that the Kingdom would be suspending Saudi nationals and citizens of the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council with national identity cards from travelling to and from the Kingdom, with the exception of Saudis who are abroad.
'The Kingdom affirms that these procedures are temporary, and is subject to continuous evaluation by the competent authorities.'
'The Kingdom renews its support for all international measures taken to limit the spread of the virus.
'The Foreign Ministry calls on citizens not to travel to countries where the new Coronavirus (COVID) is spreading. We ask God Almighty to spare us all humanity, all harm.'

Nigerian Embassy Owes London £7.1M In Parking Fines In One Year

The Nigerian High Commission in the United Kingdom has been revealed to owe £7.1m in charges for the year 2018.
In a statement titled ‘Debts owed by Diplomatic Missions and International Organisations in the United Kingdom 2018’ released on Tuesday (25th February 2020) by Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, Dominic Raab, the Nigerian High Commission was discovered to be leading the line in many aspects of debt in related charges to the British authorities.
The statement revealed that the US accumulated a total of 102,255 unpaid congestion charges, which add up to £12.44m, adding that the Embassy of Japan had a total of 69,690 unpaid congestion charges, which add up to £8,510,650, while the Nigeria High Commission follows with a total of 58,102 unpaid congestion charges, which add up to £7,063,965 in lost revenue for Transport for London.
The Commonwealth Office further stated that aside from the unpaid congestion charges, the Nigeria High Commission had £47,165 in outstanding parking fines in the same 2018, adding that the commission also has £36,975 of unpaid National Non-Domestic Rates, which is six per cent of the total value of offices of diplomatic missions, which they are obliged to pay.
These put the total unpaid debt of the Nigeria High Commission at £7,148,105 for the year 2018.
According to Raab, the Commonwealth Office had held several meetings with the debtors while encouraging them to defray their debts.
He said, “The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has held meetings with missions which have substantial outstanding parking fine debts.
“In addition, in 2019 Protocol Directorate wrote to diplomatic missions and international organisations with debts giving them the opportunity to either pay outstanding debts or appeal against specific fines if they considered that they had been recorded incorrectly.”
