As the 2019 general elections reach fever pitch and with one day to its closure, DAAR Awards 2019 continues to attract contestants and followers on the Internet.

The celebration of excellence award, hosted by DAAR Communications PLC as part of its corporate social responsibility and commitment to stimmulate excellence in Africa, continues to attract attention, as Nigerians struggle to decide which superlative performers would be recognised for the year 2018 that just ended.

The newest darling of the Nigerian music industry, Teni the Entertainer leads the Breakout star of the year award category, but only with Legbegbe’ crooner, Mr. Real, Chinko Ekun and Victor AD following closely.

Genevieve Nnaji’s Lion Heart, the first Nigerian movie to premier of Netflix, faces stiff competition from other fans’ favorites, including the hilarious ‘Merry Men’ and the audacious ‘Chief Daddy’ for Nollywood Movie of the year.

But on social media, Maraji, Lasisi Elenu and Broda Shaggy will vie for Social Media Comedy skit of the year, with fans caught between favorites.

Speaking on the polls, Ikechukwu Maduka, DAAR Awards’ Digital Communications Strategist, noted: “We have seen some very interesting selections from Nigerians across the globe.

“The passion with which they have campaigned and supported their candidates inspires us to believe in the future of our continent and continue to reward excellence.”

In the political category, the Man of the Year award continues to snowball as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar pulls farther away from President Muhammadu Buhari, Aliko Dangote and Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen.

Voters are also torn between Deji Adeyanju and Segalinks for the Most Courageous Political Activist of the year award, so much that it was described as “choosing between ones mum and dad.”
