The Federal Government is considering a birth control policy where the number of children per woman is limited to two in order to check the prevalent poverty and unemployment level in the country and they have been engaging traditional rulers on ways to make this possible. The minister of Finance Mrs. Zainab Ahmed disclosed this during a session at the 24th Nigerian Economic Summit in Abuja. She said, " We have been engaging traditional rulers and other leaders. Specifically, we have found out that to be able to address one of the great challenges that we identified in the ERGP, which is the growth in our population, we need to engage these institutions."
She also stated that in addressing one of the challenges in the Economic Recovery we need a growth plan thereby having a policy to manage birth control which will require the support of these leaders; " And we hope that with their support, we will get to a point where we can come out with the policy that limits the number of children that a mother can have because that is important for sustaining our growth" She said.
