The maiden edition of the social media awards 2018 were handed out on Saturday, November 17 at the Oriental Hotels. The awards which is born out of the desire to recognize and encourage Nigerians who create exceptional content daily, giving many a reason to smile whenever they visit the platform showcased the talent of some upcoming artist and they didn't disappoint in delivery. According to the organizers the winners for each category were selected by vote online or text messages.
Former BBNaija star Cee C bagged two awards on the night with Davido winning the celebrity of the year and Williams Uchemba went home with a brand new SUV.

For the biggest prize of the evening with the highest number of votes, William Uchemba went away with a brand new SUV; reacting to winning the SUV, William was surprised as he announced that he never told anyone to vote for him. " the vote came from people who have seen the need he has been meeting in the society and he will be giving back the car to the use of meeting the needs of homeless people in the society" he said.
Honourary awards were also given to Kefas Ropshik C.E.O Kefiano Autos, Amb. Karo Ekewenu and several others for their contribution towards youth empowerment in 2018
